If you are worn out, emotionally drained or simply feel like it’s all too much, I can assure you that you’re not the only one. We work hard, chasing a dream, putting others first and ourselves last until one day we are too tired or too sick to be any use to anyone anymore. What are we waiting for? If we don’t take care of ourselves we cannot possibly take care of others of be on our A game to achieve our dreams and goals.
The most important thing we have is our health and good heath comes from eating foods to nurture our minds and our bodies and taking time out. Sometimes we get so caught up in life that it simply consumes us, we feel burnt out, stressed out and we forget to take time to actually enjoy this amazing wonderful life that God has given us.
It is important to take time out to relax and switch off. If you are on an aeroplane the first thing they teach us in a safety drill is to put your own oxygen mask on first. If you don’t have oxygen you cannot be there to support others. Taking care of yourself allows you to be a better friend a better partner, parent and all in all a more positive person to be around. When was the last time you took time out for yourself? You may think that you don’t have time but if you don’t make time you will end up feeling resentful, tired and disillusioned. The reality is you don’t have time not to take time! When we start making small changes to put ourselves first and look after ourselves it is amazing how it lifts your self-esteem and confidence.
Once a week try one of the following simple tips to take better care of yourself:
A relaxing bath with essential oils. Try lavender, camomile or rose for a soothing soak.
A manicure or pedicure
Make a home-made face mask
Blow dry your hair
Bake healthy recipes
Have a massage
Do a yoga class
Try a 5 minute meditation
Walk bare foot on the beach
Take a walk in nature
Be grateful for the small things and soon your life will be so full of goodness that the stresses will seem to vanish away. It’s all about getting life back into balance and getting our perspective back in order.
